Meditation

As a retired Social Worker working in many areas of service, I have taught meditation and have used it myself. Meditations such as guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, breathing, belly breathing, grounding etc. However, it wasn’t until my faith began to grow that I thought, ” hey, I can meditate on Jesus “. Not only through my prayers and praise, but also through favorite songs that touch me. When I first heard the song, Oceans by Hillsong United, I was so shakenly taking well ” overcome “. I remember saying to Jesus, ” you heard my heart, Jesus that’s how I feel, thank you Jesus for giving the singer/songwriters the words”. The blessing of the words to the singer/songwriters is not only how they feel, but their songs can be how someone else feels. Anyway, Oceans by Hillsong United, is one of those song I use to meditate on Jesus, I use the imagery from the song to take me through, and the words to carry me.

  1. Thank you very much for this wonderful post, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and hearing your thoughts! I have recently published a new article on my blog presenting my perspective on Hillsong and whether it’s negative perception in the media is justified. If you have time, it would be great if you could check out my post and let me know your thoughts! Thanks 🙂

  2. What a blessing it is that we can meditate on Jesus and His Word.

Joshua 1:8 NIV, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

  3. I am contemplating going for my masters in social work or psychology. Right now, I am working towards my bachelor’s in psychology with a few classes left. I have been trying to get more habitual about my meditation practices and I did really well in January. Taking moments to clear one’s thoughts while, at the same time, focusing on God is a habit I aspire to make more consistent. Blessings !
